EFCC arraigns man for failing to declare foreign currency at Lagos Airport – PM News Nigeria

The Economic and Financial Cimes Commission has accused a man, Mr Agudosi Christopher Okechukwu for allegedly failing to declare foreign currency among his possessions at the International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The defendant who was arraigned on the 15th of april 2025, was accused of a two-count charge of money laundering.

In a statement made by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC, Mr Agudosi was taken for investigation after his initial arrest in December 2024.

“The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, arraigned one Agudosi Christopher Okechukwu for alleged non-declaration of the sums of £8,020 (Eight Thousand and Twenty Pounds Sterling) and $704 (Seven Hundred and Four United States Dollars) before Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos,” the statement read.
The EFCC explained that Agudosi was arrested at the airport by the Nigeria Customs Service for non declaration of 8,020 pounds.
“That you, Agudosi Christopher Okechukwu, on the 10th day of December, 2024 in Lagos, within the Jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, failed to make a declaration of the sum of £8,020 (Eight Thousand and Twenty Pounds Sterling) to the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 3(5) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act,Prohibition) Act, 2022.” the charge read.

In the statement, it was said that Agudosi pleaded guilty to the charges. The case however has been adjourned to May 2nd by the justice presiding over the case, Justice Bogoro.
