MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – Farmers and ranchers face constant pressure— keeping their costs low, marketing at the perfect time, the list goes on.
Whether it’s fixing equipment or trying to pull a calf, a producer can never have enough tools.
“It’s another good tool to have in your toolbox,” said Jeff Martin.
Jeff Martin has been using the Farm Management Education Program since 1978. The farmer and rancher said it has been helpful to his operation.
“This program has really been an asset to my farming and ranching for the data they produce,” said Martin.
The program is statewide and offers instructor guidance at area community colleges.
Instructors like Linda Burbidge help producers with record keeping, financials and more.
“To help them get their record books ready at the end of the year, to start the new year,” said Burbidge.
Burbidge said the state is split into four regions, with the Minot area in region two.
She said producers in the program can voluntarily submit their data for the calculation of statewide averages.
“They can see, ‘Okay, how do I compare to the others?‘” said Burbidge.
She said the averages calculated include things like net farm income, crop prices and ratios.
Burbidge said about 170 producers in the area use the program.
